    Yep!! This bill is really bad.
    It bleeds us dry.
    It bleeds the H1B program dry.
    It is evident that the proponents of this bill want it that way.

    Apparently the proponents see us as negative impactors to the US economy
    Apparently the proponents see the business community that use the H1B program as not "Pro-American".

    This is the beginning of protectionism.
    This is the beginning of isolationism.
    This is the beginning of blunting of America's competitiveness.

    The proponents of this bill must go back to school to study rich European nations and find out why they do not have a vibrant economy like US has.
    And the proponents of this bill must go back to school to know what makes US unique and vibrant.

    After this if they still remain proponents, then GOD SAVE US!!!!!

    Bad for consulting companies (no H1B; may lose job)

    Bad for physicians (no H1B for medical residents; no provisions for NIW...terrible)

    Bad for H1b transfers and extensions (severe restrictive provisions on H1B)

    AC 21 repealed (disastrous)


    Bad for pending I 140 .... left in limbo

    Bad for pending LC .... left in complete limbo


    Bad for retrogressed.... backlog will increase phenomenally 'cos of decreased visa numbers

    This bill is a massive attack on us; we should put all our efforts to oppose and kill the bill. There is little chance that we can get amendments to reverse the potential damage that this bill can do... that is disaster for us.

    there is no rule defining any length of period that you are required to stay with Gc employer but most people recommend 6 months mainly because of possible questions at citizenship interview.

    If you have a very good reason to change jobs sooner than that then document it and be prepared to defend your actions if you plan to apply for citizenship.

    I dont see any reason why this would affect spouse.

    I don't know how to open a thread to run a poll to track the number of people ready to send flowers to white house/president to highlight our case to buy houses if there is a a provision to approve GCs on a fast-track basis. With a substantial fast track fee (>4000 dollars) and 20% down payment toward house payment, we have a strong case. If we get hundreds of people ready to send to flowers, may be IV can make it an action item.

    75% of the people (close to 1000 people) where I work are consultants thro (US contracting companies, tcs, infosys, etc)....we are called supplemental workers here......if this bill passes, all of us would have to stop working.....I am sure there are other companies exactly in the same boat....whats gonna happen to this country? how will the businesses run?.....this is insane

    Lunch is supposed to be taken at cafeteria not at cubicles.It doesnt matter whether it's curry or burger.Both smell bad.
    The project where I worked in the past does not have a cafeteria at all. All my friends/colleagues used to eat at their cubicles only. Is there some kind of unofficial rule that you have to eat at a cafeteria. I feel most small companies do not have a cafeteria. I've seen in different projects that I worked, most employees whether desi or somebody else ate at their cubicles only.

    Well, there are many folks here including me who filed around first week of june.. I haven't heard anyone getting the EAD yet. I haven't seen any lud's after the receipts. Hopefully, one more week to go and then we are all good to get the 2yr EAD....

    This is a good discussion. Hope others benefit from it !

    I recently purchased 250K term-insurance policy for $11.66 per-month from NY Life. I'm 30 yrs old and qualified for their top-level health rate (eating right and exercise has financial benefits !). I guess they are the only good ones who sell policies to H1. Also, my policy has terminal illness coverage meaning that they'll pay out the amount in-case of terminal illness even if I'm not dead. I have another 100K coverage from employer (no cost). I'm not covering 10 times my current salary but I'm calculating by using equivalent Indian salary and not US. I consider myself amply covered. Also, my policy will remain active even if I decide not to wait for GC and move to India.

    Now my 2 cents about Term vs. Whole Life debate. It doesn't make any sense to buy whole-life at young age. But since the cost of term maybe prohibitively high at 60+ one should convert to whole-life at some point unless one can find/buy a fixed rate policy till 80 or something (plan to die a little b4 that :D )

    So, what are the options for EB3-I? It appears that porting to EB2 will be more difficult moving forward due to difficulties in getting PERM approved especially for IT professions.

    If the recapture of unused visas does happen, what is the estimate on how much EB3I would move?

    Thanks you all for the responses and help. We are searching for employers who can help me out in the situation. Most of them are thinking twice bcoz I am pregnant and have to take maternity leave within a 2- 3 weeks.

    Which will be the good option for me in this situation H1 transfer or EAD? I have EAD in hand, but never used. I like to maintain the status of H1-B as long as time permits. My husband is going to get health information next week once he joined in the job.

    These processing times are crap. My received date i 140 is July 24 2007 which is not even in this dates, but it got approved on May 5th 2008
