i dont like this new idea of storing purchased media in the cloud. The thing that immediately comes to mind is more restrictions for our purchases. More limitations to make the end user cough up more money.

Nobody forces you to store your music there. You can always store it on your computer if you want. Funny how you can see extra feature as a "limitation". I bet that when Apple offers similar service (just more expensive) you'll call it a "revolutionary" feature.

I'm pretty sure they also make money through Admob.

... with a 70% chance that at least one of the other Mac models could see a speed bump with use of the recently released Core 2 Duo processor...

Does he speculate there is a 100% chance that a current mac model will see a speed increase with a 70% chance that another model will see an increase as well, or that there is a 70% chance that one current model will see an increase with some unknown chance of another seeing an increase as well?

This could have been worded better.

What would you and Leguna have Samsung do to the Galaxy Tab to make it less "identical"?

Do what every other Android hardware manufacturer has done and come up with their own industrial design.

If this is true, I'd be a little pissed lol. I just traded up from my two 23" ACD's for two 24" LED LCD's.

Hopefully this means with the Mac Pro rumors refresh and Final Cut release that Apple is refocusing on their neglected pro-line. Maybe we'll see a full line of dedicated displays instead of one stripped down iMac panel.

    Don't bet on it!

Apple is clearly a consumer based company now.. it could care less about the small niche of the mac pro. iMac? Yes, mac mini? Yes, the laptops? Yes, mac pro? NO.

If they add the "album only" feature to *All* Radiohead's songs, more bands will follow. Mostly for marketing reasons. There are lots of those crappy "Radiohead wannabes - ohhhhhh our songs should not be outside their album"

    Now, I can't wait for tomorrow's event!

If we get more album only things, you might as well buy the CD instead. Nothing upsets me more than an entire album on itunes which is album only.

Android is still open... They are just going to be much more tighter on what Products qualify to get the google Logo and the android name.

much more tighter? Seriously? Can't you take the time to get a sentence correctly formed?

Either it's much tighter or much more tight, not much more tighter. And no, for all the Jailbreak folks, Jailbreak legally does not extend to corporate relationships.

There is no way at all apple will release an iPhone and iPad at the same time or within a month of each other, the manufactures would go crazy trying to get flash memory and displays for two highly popular products

DO you guys think the Mac MINI will get a speed bump anytime soon? A friend of mine, shes looking to come over to the Mac side and the MINI seems perfect for her needs but something faster would be nice then the current.

This is hardly surprising considering only Apple manufactures iOS phones and new Android phones are coming out each week. What's clear from this data is RIM and the others are quickly on their way out and many of those people are buying Android phones. But I do agree with others that Apple needs to start upping their game to compete. They should start with a low-end phone that has a smaller non-retina display and a few less other features that could get iOS devices into the hands of those that won't buy an expensive smartphone.

I wouldn't mind having Apple sell them (and I'm guessing they will to some degree), but we also have to think in terms of the market as is. If I can get a free phone through my provider every x years, I'm going to do that instead of buying outside the company (even if it is crap). If I can get an upgrade for between $50 and $300, I might consider it when I'm in the store renewing my plan. Apple can gain presence only by going through established channels; it's not to say that you won't be able to buy one in an Apple store, just that consumers who like to do comparison shopping when they get their phones might like to see an iPhone in a TMobile/Verizon/3rd party carrier store.

Wow, that App Store icon devoured my whole screen (MBP 13)

Yeah. Barely fits on my screen and i have a 24" inch imac.

it would be sick to have a 30" retina ACD. /dream

Yeah a 1024 x 1024 icon is amazing considering I would bet a significant amount of 1024 x 768 monitors are still being used. Imagine not being able to view an icon in its entirety on a five-year-old monitor!

I have had a lot of Apple products in my life (see below) and I have a Treo650. I would dump it in a heartbeat and pick up an iPhone. Especially if it has intigration with iLife apps. I'm sick of having to run flakey software just to hear my phone. I'm on my second 650 in 6 months (Speaker quit working) and while the Palm OS is outdated, I wouldnt touch Windows Mobile with a 10' pole. I'm excited with the prospect of an Apple phone.

    My Stuff:
    Mackbook Pro 15" 2.16 ghz w/Glossy Screen:D
Powerbok 12" (Cat killed it though)
    Silver iPod mini
    iPod Shuffle
    Palm Treo650
    Wife's Stuff:
    Intel iMac Core Duo 2ghz
    iPod Nano
    iMac G5
    20gb Ipod (Sons)
    Pink iPod Mini (Daughters)

Just because Palm thinks it's that hard to make a phone doesn't necessarily mean that Apple would have had the same difficulties.

Have you seen the size of the heat sink in the Mac Pro? ;)

And still..... nobody knows if you can just buy a random off the shelf nvidia 7800 and plop it into this sucker.

my powermac g4 died, but can SOMEONE, just ANYONE go into their 'system profiler' and see if they have a list of all the compatible video cards? i seem to remember you could get some information like that in the profiler or some other such app. or if you're an elite hacker, open up terminal and go to /usr/ or wahtever it is and see if the nvidia drivers are there.

overall excited. definitely buying a 2ghz mac pro as soon as it's in the stores.

Amazon is a very smart company. They are setting themselves up to be the defacto content provider for Android which every other company seemed adverse to doing.

I'm sure Apple will respond with an iOS solution but syncing has not been a strong point for Apple at all. Hopefully we'll see the improved MobileMe Mr Jobs had spoke of last year.

Actually, MobileMe is great at syncing services but it is beyond bad when it comes to cloud storage. Amazon has great network of data centers around the world and pipes that will deliver. Apple has lousy iDisk which is dead slow and therefore almost useless for many functions. I hope this truly pushes Apple to release FAST cloud storage service with MobileMe. With its current pricing MobileMe should delver at least 50-60GB of fast storage space on top of the sync services. I truly hope that Apple is not planing to release a cloud "locker" when we need a "vault".

So Steve is saying there is no database of locations? Thats just an outright lie.

iOS uses services from a company called Skyhook to help with location tracking. they use GPS and wifi access points to pinpoint locations faster than GPS.

a lot of android phones used to use it as well but in 2.1 or 2.2 google made it very hard to use anything except google for location. this is why a lot of android phones have slow GPS or it doesn't work as well indoors.

if the data is sent to anyone it's probably to skyhook to improve their service. or maybe apple is doing something similar and building their own location database. do you really think that every time you use GPS it really sends a signal to outer space?
