More speculation than rumour, but for Leopard I'd bet on:

    -Resolution Independent UI http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2006/5/22/4065
    -Quartz 2D Extreme http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/macosx-10.4.ars/14

Honestly, I'm surprised they're not in the rumour roundup.

    David

Thanks for the links, Dave! I found them both very informative, especially the one on Quartz 2 Extreme.

Do you have any feel for when we will see a roll-out of the pro apps? I recall quite a bit of rumor-mongering just before the Intel announcement. Since then it has been rather silent. I thought the sudden drop in Quake might be a precursor to something fairly soon??

    Rule 1 of Apple Events:

You never get all the marbles.

Very, very true. You usually only get half the things you expect... the real gem is when you get something you didn't expect.

Did you take those yourself? I've only played with photo mode a little and i have trouble keeping my car in focus unless i use a huge f-stop. If i shorted the DoF it always ends up focusing on my rear bumper or something stupid.
I probably just need to use it more, but i just get impatient and start another race.

Se after some clarification, heres the process...

We cant guarantee you a phone, but if you "reserve" and have a pin number, you will get a phone. We just cant make a promise, guarantee, or anything like that per apple.

The same still applies, if we take 10 pins, we get 10 phones.

If you buy a Xeon 5160 (3.0GHz) at the moment they are 570. Apple are charging 530 to upgrade from Xeon 5150 (2.66GHz) to the Xeon 5160. Bearing in mind that you can probably sell the original 2.66Gz chip for around 300, it would be cheaper to buy the lower spec Mac Pro and upgrade yourself.

Forgive the for those that think in $.

    Aren't there 2 chips though?

I guess the republicans can maybe now look at the issues.

I am glad that Obama put out the papers to shut the conspiracy theorists up.

Putting the papers out has made all the people who spewed this crap look like total and complete fools; and exposed their racism for all to see and mock. :D

For all the GOPers who wouldn't tell the racist fools in your own party to drop it, you are complicit in this farce. John Boehner, I'm talking to you! Yes, it was your job. (http://www.mediaite.com/tv/speaker-boehner-its-not-my-job-to-tell-americans-that-obama-is-not-a-muslim/)

my dad bought a new 17in MBP and got it a week after it came out-couple days later, the battery would stop working and wouldnt be recognized by the computer-i called apple and by the end of the day i had a box sent to send in the computer-3 days later it was back with a new battery and everything. great service. also i had an airport problem-i brought it into the apple store, they looked at the airport, and in 20 minutes replaced it with a new one for no cost because i had applecare. i feel they have great service next to others, such as dell who i have called before and had a crap load of trouble...

    Funny comment from Engadget:

Q: Why is my iphone tracking me?
A: It's not. It's tracking networks and cell towers near wherever you go.

Q: What is the difference between tracking me, and tracking the towers wherever I happen to go? Isn't that the same thing?
    A: No. Because it's crowd-sourced. Total crowd size = 1.

Q: Umm. Ok? Soo. Why have you been keeping logs for the past year?
    A: That was a bug.

Q: Then why was it unencrypted?
    A: That was a bug.

Q: Right. Then why when I opted out did it ignore my choice?
    A: That was a bug.

So you really think it's just a handful of people on Macrumors?

    Oh, and people I know.

So, how many do you think? Less than 10? Less than 100? What is your definition of "a lot"? Also please note I never said it was any kind of majority of FCP users or anything like that. I never said it was an industry-wide pandemic, although you'd like to put those words into my mouth as well. You'd also like to paint my claim that "a lot of pros are leaving FCP" as "combative", even though it's not. It's just an observation. I don't know why you're taking it so personally.

I'd say 25% of the current user base would be a lot.

Amazing to see how most Democrats are willing to lie to themselves and ignore the hypocritical truth all around them... the leftist side of the antiwar movement is all but gone, but not because the policies have changed, only because the man has changed.

What Happened to the Antiwar Movement? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=N_VHEts3fqk)

Does it even MATTER if Apple keeps up? Do we actually WANT Apple to release a new computer every month when Intel bumps up their chips a few megahertz?

See, it's easy to get lost in the specs war. The Mac Pros came out and I was salivating, even though I have a dual 2.0GHz G5 sitting at home. And then one day, as I was editing some HD footage, it occurred ot me that my G5 here - my now outdated G5 - was editing 1080p high-def footage without so much as a flinch. It was SO fast it was not even necessary at all.

So I really have to ask - does Apple really need to get into that stupid-ass PC specs war? Is it really hurting you guys that Apple has been slow to update? Are you really doing tasks that the current computer lineup cannot do?

No, that is not true, in fact it couldn't be more untrue. Now, the 95 family (95/98/ME) was a totally different codebase. But with the NT family (NT/2000/XP) the client and the server were identical, even identical in distributed code. In fact there was a big scandal years ago where someone discovered the registry setting where you could turn NT Workstation into NT Server. Back then all that was different was the number of outbound IP connections and possibly the number of CPUs supported. All they were trying to do with Workstation was prevent you from using it as a server (thus the outbound IP limit) and at some point they didn't give you full-blown IIS on Workstation. That's it.

Dude, how many times do I have to repeat myself before you myopic '90s-era IT geeks understand me? I was referring to the difference between Windows 9x and Windows NT. I neither knew, nor care, that there were different versions of NT itself. For. Christ's. Sake. I have said this three times now. Don't make me come over there.

On an unrelated note, wouldnt it been cool to effectivly install a whole OS on RAM. That would be noticably quicker....

I keep hearing about speculation that they'll start using NAND flash to help with startup times in laptops, things like that -- now, how would that work? Doesn't everything have to be on the boot volume? OS's seem to assume these days that the OS, programs and user directories are all going to be on one volume and you have to be kind of technically literate to do it differently..

Paul wants to shut down government. All that would be left is the few peace officers needed to protect business from millions of poor people.

Ultra FAIL fear mongering. Libertarian ≠ Anarchist. Small government ≠ no government. Limiting government with constitutional constraints ≠ destruction of government.
He's a common sense constitutional conservative, enemy of tyranny everywhere, and an unfailing defender of fundamental human liberty.

Motorola not selling any units of a crappy product? Huh... who'd have thought.

No need to brag IMO and did you really try a Xoom and put it through it's paces?

I didn't, but tried an ipad 1 and it wasn't doing all I would want it for, plus I never buy a first gen Apple product. (That little rule has served me well since 1984)

Apple is waaayyyyyyy ahead at the moment and the copy cats are playing catch up.

But, I like that there will be a race forcing each manufacturer to make the product better and better.

While Apple is not ignoring what the competition does, their philosophy of making their own products better and better seems to be successful.

So, why change that formula or shake in your boots , just because somebody launches a new copy?

    "Federal Marshals need a warrant. . . . . "

Duh, the police always have to jump over a higher bar . . . I, personally, can come into your home, take your bag of cocaine, and go give it to the police and it will be admissible, even though the cops need a warrant. (I can be sued for breaking and entering, etc., but the drugs are still admissible

Also, there is a case in California, upheld by the 9th Circuit, that says the police do NOT need a warrant to come onto your property and place a GPS tracking device on your car and track you and your car. It might get overturned at the USSC, but today, it is legal. Their legal theory is that you don’t have a right to privacy on PUBLIC roads, and it also isn't unreasonable to think that no one would ever come on your property, uninvited. . salesmen, delivery people, the neighbor, etc. So, unless your yard is fenced, and/or clearly posted NO TRESPASSING, the police can put that GPS on your car.

You are right, but you are wrong in mentioning that you need a fence and a sign saying "NO TRESPASSING" for cops to come in and take a look. Look up the cases from the United States Supreme Court that hold otherwise. That will not stop cops and it has not stopped cops. For example, cases where people were growing pot in their barn. Cops jumped the fence, peeked into the barn, saw the rugs, boom you have a warrant because it is based on probable cause. . However, this is not the point of the discussion here.

I think Apple just moved for summary judgment as a matter of law and get with it because these attorneys are trying to see if Apple will settle, but I highly doubt they will even consider it.

"If you are a federal marshal you have to have a warrant to do this kind of thing, and Apple is doing it without one."

This lawyer needs to go back to law school. The 4th amendment, which protects our right to privacy, is to prevent the government from infringing on that right. Last I checked Apple was not part of the government.

Also, Apple is not tracking anything. They simple have a file on your phone that has all of this information. (correct me if I am wrong).
